Series reviews

Urban Dictionary defines jump the shark as: a term to describe a moment when something that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity.

I love reading series, but not all series are created alike and often, even the best of them, 'jump the shark'. Some are short and sweet, keeping the flow and quality writing throughout. Some series, go one and on when really the author should have wrapped it up five books earlier. Other series jump around a vast cast of characters in a way that is off-putting. I know everyone has read a series that is 10+ books long that really could have been better wrapped up in 5. And who wanted to read a 17 book love triangle? Make up your mind already and move on.

Even shorter series like a trilogy have pit falls. That second book where nothing happens or ultimately the characters end up mad at one another and fight the whole book in preparation for the third book where all the questions from the first book are finally answered. Strong trilogies consist of three, solid books. Each building upon the others and adding to the story, not just taking up pages until the big finish.

Series are tricky to write. My hats off to the authors that do it and do it well. I'd love to hear what are some of your favorites, because I love reading new series!

Reading My Mind
I'm a wife and a mom, first and foremost. I love to read, but have found people 5 star ratings rampant. My hope is to provide reviews that even the author would read and say "Yep, she's right."
